JAMB Inaugurates Special Committee on Examination Infractions (SCEI) to review the Admission and Educational System

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

In its bulletin, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as part of its  efforts to restore integrity to the admission and examination system, a Special Committee on Examination Infractions (SCEI) has been launched and charged with the responsibility to investigate, review and recommend strategies to put an end to malpractice and fraudulent acts in educational system.

The Special Committee on Examination Infractions (SCEI) in line with its duty, has recommended 3-year ban on Examination cheat. This action follows the observation of malpractice during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Dr. Jake Epelle the chairman of the committee, While submitting the committee’s report to the JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede said, the committee propose enhancing the current Central Sanctions Registry at the Federal Ministry of Education and ensuring it is readily accessible to institutions and employers to curb the prevailing challenges.

In the committee’s bid to tackle the multi headed menace, it calls for legal reforms and amendments of JAMB acts and the examination malpractice acts to recognize the biometric and digital fraud.

Further more, it unveiled a comprehensive strategy centered on detection and prevention, advocating for AI-driven biometric anomaly detection, dual verification system, real-time monitoring and the creation of National Examination Security Operations Centre.

Dr. Epelle said, “We documented 4,251 cases of “finger blending”, 190 cases of AI-assisted image morphing, 1,878 false declarations of albinism, and numerous cases of credential forgery, multiple NIN registrations, and solicitation schemes.

He further stated that, this Fraud is not only the work of candidates, some CBT centers, schools, parents, tutors and tech helpers are keeping this scam going amd it has become culturally normalized, accepted as the shortcut to success.

JAMB is a Nigerian Government Agency that conducts entrance examination for students seeking Admission into Universities, Polytechnic, and colleges of education in Nigeria
