York mosque sets to hold its 10th “visit my mosque” Annual Open day on the 5th of October from 2pm-4pm

The Bull Lane Mosque in England sets to hold its annual “Visit My Mosque” open day in which this year’s will be the 10th of its kind under the theme Flag-Bearers of Unity: Tea, Talk and Shared Values on Sunday, October 5, from 2pm-4pm.

This open day aims to help nurture new positive relationships and also providing visitors with exhibitions on the core values of Islam, insights into the Mosque’s community work, and the opportunity to speak to some of the centre’s volunteers.

According to the ambassador for York Mosque, Faizal Mohamudbuccus, “In previous years, we have been really happy with the positive feedback we have received after these open days. Islam means peace, and we want to help spread this across our community – inviting everyone to engage with us.”

Following the updates on social media, to support the ambassador’s speech, a spokesperson for the Mosque, stated: “At York Mosque, we believe being Muslim and British go hand-in-hand. Flag-Bearers of Unity isn’t just a theme; it’s a reminder that our flags, our faith, and our friendships can fly side by side.”

Faizal added that there are many “misconceptions” about his faith that he wished to address with the event. Speaking about the number of Union, St George’s and Yorkshire flags which have appeared across the city. “Personally, the flags don’t bother me. I am always happy to see a British flag – I love this country and am proud of what it represents. I just think that the issue has attracted the wrong crowd of people, some of whom go on to do bad things.”

Aside from giving visitors a more general understanding of Muslim faith and culture, the event will also set to highlight the community work the Mosque does. Faizal said: “We regularly work in conjunction with the Tang Hall Community Centre, Refugee Action York and Helping Hands to help people across York. We also host community kitchen events every other Thursday from 12pm till 1.30pm, which provide free meals to vulnerable people in need.”

“This was launched two years ago and has been a great success. After starting out supporting just five people, we now cater for more than 100, and many of these people go on to give back and volunteer. We’re also lucky to have some great local businesses, who have been incredibly kind and have offered to provide food at our community kitchens. These range from fish and chip shops to Turkish and local burger restaurants. We couldn’t be more grateful for the continued support.”
