Qatar Gets QR100,000 Mosque Endowment

New donation supports Qatar’s push to improve and maintain mosque services

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has received a new investment endowment valued at QR100,000 from a Qatari benefactor. The proceeds will support the Mosque Services Endowment Fund, in line with a formally documented deed that upholds the donor’s conditions and ensures proper investment of the returns.

This contribution further strengthens Qatar’s portfolio of developmental endowments and signals a growing public commitment to supporting mosque-related projects. These initiatives are overseen by specialised departments to guarantee transparency, sustainability, and the optimal use of resources.

According to the Directorate’s records, the benefactor has previously made similar endowment contributions, demonstrating his sustained dedication to charitable giving and pursuit of lasting reward.

Commenting on the gesture, Ghanem Abdul Latif Al-Rumaihi, Head of Marketing at the Section of Endowment Funds, said the Mosque Services Endowment Fund is founded on Quranic principles that inspire many generous citizens to support mosques through endowments.

He explained that the fund covers a wide range of mosque-related needs—from construction, maintenance, and care to training programmes that enhance the capabilities of imams and reinforce the mosque’s social and spiritual role.

Al-Rumaihi added that the fund’s objectives go beyond physical upkeep, extending to all efforts aimed at enriching the mosque’s message within the community.

He noted that the General Directorate of Endowments provides donors with diverse endowment options, enabling each benefactor to support the field or cause that aligns with their aspirations.

Awqaf refers to Islamic endowments—properties, money, or assets donated for religious or charitable purposes, whose benefits are used to support mosques, education, healthcare, or community welfare, while the original asset remains preserved and cannot be sold or inherited.
