Prime Minister Anwar deepens Malaysia–Africa relations with halal cooperation push and Quran donations

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed Malaysia’s readiness to deepen cooperation with African countries in the halal sector, following a high-level engagement with South African Islamic leaders on Wednesday.

Anwar said the discussions focused on enhancing halal certification frameworks, capacity building and broader collaboration that could benefit Muslim communities across the continent.

He described the meeting as a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and identifying new pathways for ummah development, noting that Malaysia and African nations share a long-standing spirit of solidarity.

As a gesture of brotherhood, Anwar presented a special edition Quran with a rehal, along with four boxes of English-language and Tajweed-translated Qurans to South African Islamic leaders.

The Prime Minister is on a four-day working visit to South Africa, where he will participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg at the invitation of President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.

Malaysia was invited to the summit, which runs until November 23, in its capacity as ASEAN 2025 chair.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, is accompanied by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, senior government officials and a business delegation.
