Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa urges collective action to confront rising hatred and defend Islamic values.

The head of the World Muslim League (WML), Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, has called on Muslims worldwide, including Indonesia, to strengthen unity in addressing the rise of Islamophobia and other global threats.

Speaking at a gathering of Indonesian religious and political leaders at the Saudi ambassador’s residence in Jakarta, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted challenges ranging from jihadist propaganda to widespread anti-Islam sentiment, emphasizing that these issues can only be tackled collectively. He warned that half of the forces driving Islamophobia come from within Muslim communities pursuing their own agendas, and urged stronger cooperation to safeguard Muslim interests.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that Islamophobia was a major topic at the recent WML meeting in Saudi Arabia, which brought together thousands of Islamic leaders and produced recommendations for collective action.

He encouraged Indonesian Muslims to play a more active role in promoting unity and countering Islamophobia. Beyond this, he also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the need for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, and praised Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s strong support for Palestinian rights at the UN General Assembly. The meeting was attended by key Indonesian officials, ambassadors, and dignitaries, including Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf and Deputy Speaker Hidayat Nur Wahid.
