Malaysia is set to host a major international conference for Islamic scholars and leaders this June at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event is said to be strategic collaboration between the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Muslim World League (MWL).

Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department of Religious Affairs announced the agreement after holding talks during a working visit to Saudi Arabia.

According to him, he met with the Muslim World League Secretary General Mohammed Abdulkarim Al-Issa in Mecca, Jeddah, and Riyadh and the discussion focused on exchanging ideas and shaping the future of Islam at both regional and global levels.

Speaking on the development, Zulkifli described the effort as a mission to unite the Muslim ummah and strengthen global cooperation and brotherhood then he went on to urge Muslims to take advantage of the initiative to build a knowledgeable society and promote unity, emphasizing the importance of reform (Islah).

Zulkifli also revealed that Al-Issa praised Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, describing him as a distinguished intellectual and a leading Islamic thinker.
