Saudi Sets SR100,000 Fine for Illegal Hajj

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Ministry of Interior Saudi Arabia has introduced strict penalties for anyone who performs Hajj without an official permit or helps others do so illegally.

The new rules will be in effect from April 18 to mid-June, covering the main Hajj period. They apply to both individuals trying to perform Hajj without approval and those who assist them in entering or staying in Mecca and other holy sites.

Under the regulations, anyone caught performing or attempting to perform Hajj without a permit can be fined up to SR20,000. The same fine applies to people on visit visas who try to enter or remain in Mecca during the restricted period.

Stronger penalties of up to SR100,000 will be given to those who help such violations. This includes people who arrange visit visas, transport pilgrims, or provide them with accommodation in hotels, apartments, or private homes. The total fine may increase depending on how many people are involved.

Authorities also said that anyone found entering Mecca illegally, including those who overstay their visas, will be deported and banned from returning to the country for 10 years. In some cases, vehicles used to transport offenders may be seized by court order.

The ministry urged residents and visitors to follow Hajj rules strictly and report any violations to the authorities.
