Ahead of the Kano State Government’s mass wedding programme, medical screening has commenced for intending couples at the Naibawa Primary Health Care Centre in Kano.

The exercise is being conducted for the first batch of 1,500 prospective couples expected to participate in the programme.

According to Commander General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, only those who successfully passed security investigations and vetting exercises were allowed to take part in the screening.
The exercise was led by the Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Usman Bashir, with about 300 couples undergoing medical screening as part of the process.

Also present to supervise the exercise was the Director-General of Kano State Hisbah Sharia Commission, Malam Abba Sufi, PhD.

The Kano State Government’s Mass Nikkah programme is one of the flagship initiatives of the governor aimed at helping Muslims fulfil an important aspect of their faith through marriage. A total of 3,000 couples are expected to participate in this year’s programme.
Several other dignitaries were also in attendance to witness the medical screening exercise.
