Raheemat Adeniran becomes Fountain University’s first Professor of Mass Communication, while Mutiyat Ogunrinde becomes its first Professor of Software Engineering.

Fountain University, Osogbo, has elevated two female academics to professorial rank, with Dr. Raheemat Adefolake Adeniran and Dr. Mutiyat Adebukola Ogunrinde emerging as the institution’s pioneer professors in Mass Communication and Software Engineering respectively.

The appointments were approved at the 67th Meeting of the Governing Council of Fountain University, held on Monday, September 21, 2026, and announced by the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mr Sheriff Adeyemi Adenekan.

Professor Adeniran becomes Fountain University’s first Professor of Mass Communication, marking a milestone for both the discipline and the University’s College of Management and Social Sciences, where she currently serves as Dean.

Her elevation also makes her the first female Professor in the College of Management and Social Sciences, adding another distinction to her appointment as pioneer Professor of Mass Communication at the University.

As the first Professor of Mass Communication at Fountain University, Professor Adeniran’s elevation strengthens the academic profile of a discipline central to communication, media, journalism, public relations and the wider information ecosystem.

Her new status is expected to contribute to the continued development of teaching, research, mentorship and intellectual activity in Mass Communication, while her role as Dean places her at the centre of the College’s academic and administrative development.

Professor Ogunrinde, meanwhile, becomes Fountain University’s first Professor of Software Engineering, marking a corresponding milestone in the University’s computing and technology disciplines.

Her elevation also makes her the first female Professor in the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, representing another landmark in the academic history of the institution.

As the pioneer Professor of Software Engineering at Fountain University, Professor Ogunrinde’s appointment adds to the University’s academic capacity in computing, digital technology and related fields, while recognising her advancement within a discipline increasingly central to education, industry and innovation.

The two appointments give particular prominence to the advancement of women within Fountain University’s academic structure, with both academics attaining professorial rank while establishing firsts in their respective disciplines and academic units.

The developments form part of a series of significant academic decisions approved by the Governing Council at its meeting, reflecting the University’s continued focus on strengthening academic capacity and recognising scholarly achievement.

The University said the elevations had been welcomed across the community, with the achievements of Professors Adeniran and Ogunrinde seen as significant milestones for Fountain University and for women pursuing careers in the social sciences, communication, computing and technology.

The University congratulated both academics on their achievements and expressed confidence in their continued contributions to scholarship, academic leadership, mentorship and the development of their respective disciplines.
