By Abdullahi Yusuf

The University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) has congratulated its member, Mrs Toyin Bilquees Adekoya, on her appointment as a Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Public Service, describing her elevation as recognition of her competence, professionalism and commitment to public service.

Adekoya is among six new permanent secretaries appointed by Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a move the state government said was aimed at strengthening policy implementation and improving service delivery.

The appointments were announced in a circular signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro. The circular identified Adekoya as Principal/Director of Education at Education District VI and stated that the appointments took effect on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Details of the appointees’ specific postings were to be communicated in due course.

In a congratulatory statement signed by its National President, Dr Mumini Alao, UMA described Adekoya’s appointment as well deserved, saying it reflected confidence in her competence, dedication and professional commitment to education and public service.

The association said her elevation was a source of pride to the UMA community and expressed confidence that she would bring her experience and administrative expertise to bear on her new responsibilities.

Adekoya is the wife of Professor Khalid Adekoya, UMA’s immediate past president. The association also acknowledged his contributions to its growth and development, describing them as highly valued by the alumni body.

The five other appointees are Mr Adebayo Mudashiru Haroun, Dr Mahadiyu Olawale Adegbite, Mrs Folashade Aina Thomas-Orogan, Mr Sunday Olatunbosun Ogunbanwo and Mrs Margret Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose.

According to the circular, Haroun was formerly Director of State Counsel at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice; Adegbite was Director of Medical Services at the Health Service Commission; Thomas-Orogan was Director of State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice; Ogunbanwo was Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Health; and Oye-Bamgbose was Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

UMA wished Adekoya a successful and impactful tenure, praying that Almighty Allah would grant her the wisdom, strength, good health and guidance needed to discharge her responsibilities effectively.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to celebrating the achievements of its members, describing such accomplishments as a source of honour and inspiration to the UMA community.
