AHUON Seeks Clarification on Tent A in Mina

Nigerian Hajj operators urge NAHCON to resolve accommodation uncertainty ahead of 2025 pilgrimage

By Abdullahi Yusuf

With preparations intensifying for the 2025 Hajj, the Association for Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHUON) has raised concerns over lingering uncertainty surrounding Tent A allocations in Mina, a crucial component of pilgrim accommodation during the sacred rites in Saudi Arabia.

In a letter addressed to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), AHUON called for urgent clarification, warning that the lack of official guidance on Tent A arrangements for private operators could jeopardise operational timelines, delay logistical planning, and ultimately impact the overall experience for Nigerian pilgrims.

“As the sacred Hajj season draws closer and visa processes commence, our member companies are now at a pivotal stage in finalizing arrangements,” AHUON wrote. “A key concern, however remains unresolved, the allocation and confirmation of Tent A arrangements within the Mashaa’ir.”

Tent A in Mina is typically reserved for licensed private Hajj operators and is considered a premium accommodation zone, offering more structured amenities and services for pilgrims. However, AHUON says the current silence around its allocation has left stakeholders in limbo.

According to the association, the inability to secure clarity has direct implications for system updates on the Saudi e-Hajj portal, logistical planning, and the delivery of services to pilgrims all of which are bound by tight deadlines.

In the letter, AHUON made three specific appeals to NAHCON:

  1. To provide an official position on Tent A arrangements for Hajj 2025;

  2. To convene an urgent consultative meeting between the Commission and AHUON;

  3. And to fast-track the resolution process to prevent avoidable disruptions in private operator schedules.

“We humbly seek your urgent guidance and clarification,” the letter added, underscoring the ripple effect the matter could have on the reputation and efficiency of Nigerian Hajj operations.

Despite the concern, AHUON praised the Commission’s efforts in preparing for Hajj 2025, describing NAHCON’s leadership as a “beacon of hope and stability” for the Hajj and Umrah sector in Nigeria. The association also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Commission’s broader mission of ensuring a seamless and spiritually uplifting pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.

The 2025 Hajj season is expected to witness a rise in pilgrim turnout after years of pandemic-induced restrictions. For Nigerian pilgrims and operators alike, early planning and clarity on critical logistics such as accommodation remain central to a successful exercise.

As of the time of this report, NAHCON has yet to issue a public response.
