Riyadh honours late Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh with street naming, recognizing his life long service to Islam and the Muslim world

Crown Prince and prime minister Muhammad bin Salman has ordered that a major street in the capital city of Riyadh be named after the late Grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, and chairman of the council of senior scholars.

This directive comes as a token of honor and appreciation for Al-Sheikh’s scholarly stature and his outstanding contributions in serving the nation, Islam, and the Muslims.

Riyadh is the capital city of Saudi Arabia located in the centre of the Arabian Peninsula, in the Najd region and one of the most important cities in the Arab and Islamic World.

The late Sheikh dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and teaching of Islamic jurisprudence and guiding people, and his scholarly and practical contributions had a profound impact on strengthening the standing of Islamic jurisprudence and its teaching. Al-Sheikh died in Riyadh on September 23, 2025.

A Grand mufti is the highest-ranking religious scholar in a country or region who is officially recognized as an authority on Islamic law (Shari’ah)
