Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday received Malaysia’s King Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at the Royal Court in Al-Yamamah Palace, Riyadh — marking the first official visit by a Malaysian monarch to the Kingdom in over four decades.

An official ceremony was held in honor of the visiting ruler, followed by high-level discussions aimed at strengthening the deep-rooted ties between the two Muslim-majority nations.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the talks focused on expanding cooperation in key areas such as trade, defense, geopolitics, and Islamic affairs, alongside broader issues of mutual concern.

Malaysia’s royal palace described the four-day trip as a “landmark state visit” underscoring both countries’ renewed commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. Riyadh remains Malaysia’s 14th-largest trading partner, with trade volume reaching RM44.74 billion (US$9.79 billion) in 2024.

The last state visit by a Malaysian monarch to Saudi Arabia took place in 1984, led by the late Sultan Ahmad Shah. This week’s engagement is expected to open new pathways of collaboration as both nations seek to align economic and diplomatic priorities in a shifting global landscape.
