Lunar calendar released with moon-sighting forecasts for all Islamic months across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has unveiled its lunar calendar for 2026, detailing expected moon-sighting dates for all Islamic months, along with moon birth timings, sunset times, and anticipated visibility.

According to PMD, the crescent of Shaban is expected on January 21, 2026, while the Ramadan moon is likely to be sighted on February 18. The Shawwal crescent is projected for March 19, and Dhul Qadah is anticipated on April 18, 2026.

The Dhul Hijjah moon is expected to appear on May 17, 2026, which suggests that Eid al-Adha may be celebrated on May 27. The Muharram moon could be visible on June 15, marking the start of the new Islamic year, followed by the Safar crescent on July 15, and Rabi ul Awwal on August 13, 2026.

Later in the year, Rabi us Sani is expected on September 12, Jumada ul Awwal on October 12, Jumada us Sani on November 10, and the Rajab moon on December 10, 2026.

PMD stated that the calendar was prepared by its Climate Data Processing Center, which regularly provides lunar forecasts to assist with official moon sightings and other religious observances throughout Pakistan.
