Qatari Companies Honoured for Commitment to Zakat

Qatari companies honoured for fulfilling zakat obligations and supporting community development.

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs recently held a ceremony to recognise Qatari companies committed to fulfilling their zakat obligations this year, highlighting their role in promoting social solidarity and corporate social responsibility.

Opening the event, MalAllah Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, welcomed business leaders and company representatives, expressing appreciation for their participation in an initiative that embodies cooperation and social cohesion.

In his address, Al Jaber emphasized that zakat is a cornerstone of societal development, purifying both wealth and soul. He noted that companies’ contributions through the department ensure funds reach eligible beneficiaries in accordance with Islamic regulations, reinforcing zakat’s role as the first institution of social security in Islamic tradition.

Al Jaber highlighted the department’s efforts to simplify zakat payment for both individuals and businesses, particularly through its corporate zakat calculation service for individual establishments and shareholding companies.

In 2025 alone, the department assessed the financial statements of over 150 companies, determining their zakat bases and due amounts, which were communicated through official letters delivered by the corporate field-visits team.

The ceremony brought together business owners and representatives from leading zakat-paying companies, who expressed gratitude for the department’s efforts and its contribution to community development. Al Jaber lauded the private sector’s awareness and commitment to fulfilling both religious and social responsibilities.

The recognition aims to inspire more companies and individuals to meet their zakat obligations, echoing the Quranic guidance: “If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you.”

The Zakat Affairs Department is a government body responsible for overseeing the collection, management, and distribution of zakat, the obligatory Islamic almsgiving. It ensures that individuals and organizations fulfill their zakat obligations while promoting social welfare, supporting the needy, and fostering transparency and accountability in the use of zakat funds.
