Qatar Holds Public Finale of Sheikh Jassim Quran Contest

Top memorizers compete before global judges in a transparent and inspiring closing round.

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim, attended the final public stage of the full Quran memorization category of the 30th Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Competition.

The concluding rounds were held at Imam Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab Mosque, drawing a live audience and an international panel of distinguished Quran scholars. Chair of the Organizing Committee, MalAllah Abdulrahman Al Jaber, said the open assessments were designed to ensure transparency and allow the public to witness outstanding Quranic performance.

Judges from across the Islamic world evaluated contestants based on strict criteria, including memorization accuracy, tajweed, and overall delivery. Al Jaber noted that holding the event in the spiritual setting of Imam Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab Mosque aligns with the Prophet’s teaching on the virtues of gathering to recite and study the Quran.

He added that making the final stage public allows the audience to benefit from the participants’ exemplary recitations. To widen access, the event was broadcast live on Qatar TV Channel 2, Quran Radio, and the Ministry’s social media platforms.

Al Jaber affirmed that the competition has continued to inspire excellence among Qatari and resident memorizers—male and female—while strengthening the connection of young generations to the Holy Quran. This, he said, aligns with Qatar’s commitment to honoring the Quran and its people.

The competition concluded yesterday with the elite resident category final, featuring Mahmoud Suleiman Al-Mabruk Idris (Libya), Hamza Al-Habashi (USA), Magdy Abdullah Salem Ahmed (Egypt), Mohammed Abdu Ahmed Qassem (Yemen), and Rasheed Abdulrahman Al-Alani (Tunisia).

The Sheikh Jassim Holy Quran Competition is notable for encouraging mastery of multiple qirā’āt. Winners in the full Quran category with one riwayah must return the following year to compete using a different riwayah—an approach unique to this competition.
