MURIC- Muslims Must Not Be Sacrificial Lambs

MURIC urges FG to ensure security deal with US benefits all Nigerians equally

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has cautioned the Federal Government (FG) that its recent security deal with the United States must not turn Muslims into sacrificial lambs.

The warning, contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, was signed by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

According to the statement, a high-profile delegation of the Federal Government reportedly struck a security deal with the United States, which was announced on Monday. The deal focuses on security technology and the provision of intelligence.

However, emphasis, albeit by inference, appears to have been placed on protecting Christian populations in the North Central and offering humanitarian assistance to the Middle Belt, without a similar commitment to communities in the North West and North East.

MURIC described the one-sided nature of this assistance as divisive, lopsided, and inhuman, urging the government to ensure that Muslims affected by terrorism and banditry are not neglected. “The Muslim North is devastated as we speak. Its economy lies in ruins. FG is duty-bound to seek help for the Muslim North as it has for the Middle Belt; otherwise, justice and fairness have not been served,” the statement read.

The organization further warned that the agreement with the United States must address the message, not the messenger. “We must assist both Christian and Muslim victims regardless of where the affliction came from. That is humanity. Any partial handling of assistance will only divide Nigerians further, deepen hostilities, and reopen wounds,” MURIC emphasized.

The statement called for security cooperation to cover all Nigerians, not just Christians in the North Central, and for special protection of Muslims in Plateau, Benue, the South East, and South West, where they have faced killings and destruction of mosques. Professor Akintola also criticized what he described as media bias and warned that Muslims must not be turned into sacrificial lambs under the pressure of foreign powers.

MURIC concluded by advising FG not to rely solely on the United States for security cooperation but to continue seeking partnerships with other foreign powers.
