Students Flee Borno School Hostels Over Kidnap Fears

Panic spreads in Maiduguri college after reports of masked men entering hostels

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

Students of Government Girls College, Maiduguri, fled their school hostels at night after noticing unusual movements and fearing a possible attack by suspected terrorists.

According to source, a video obtained shows the students running out in panic, raising alarm over their safety as attacks on schools in northern Nigeria continue to escalate.

One of the students said masked men dressed in black entered their hostels while they were praying in the mosque. She appealed to authorities to allow students to return home to avoid a repeat of the 2014 Chibok girls’ abduction and urged state security agencies to act urgently.

The incident comes amid rising attacks on schools across the North. In Niger State, 265 staff and students, including 239 pupils, were recently abducted from St. Mary’s School. In Kebbi State, about 25 students were kidnapped in another attack, heightening fears across the region.

These events have revived the painful memory of earlier mass abductions, including the Chibok girls in 2014, underscoring persistent security challenges facing schools in northern Nigeria. Parents and community leaders continue to call for immediate government intervention.
