Renowned Nigerian Scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Returns to His Maker in the Early Hours of Thursday

One of the country’s most influential Islamic scholars, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has been reported dead in the early hours of Thursday. He was born in Gombe on the 29th of June, 1927. He devoted his life toward advancing Islamic education, promoting peaceful coexistence, and fostering unity in the country.

According to reports, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. A recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), he was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars, celebrated for his vast knowledge, spiritual guidance, lifelong commitment to Islamic propagation, and he was also widely known for having more than 80 children.

He was also the supreme leader of the Tijjaniya in Nigeria, an Islamic Sufi group. His teachings, focusing on moral discipline, tolerance, and adherence to Islamic principles, earned him mass followership and deep respect within and beyond Nigeria.

Over the years, Usman-Bauchi played a significant role in community development, mentoring young scholars, and strengthening religious understanding.

“Sheikh was receiving visitors on Wednesday night until he was later rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Hospital, where he was confirmed dead this morning. His funeral will be held on Friday, 28th, in line with Islamic rites under the leadership of Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh,” said Mallam Ahmad Mohammed, a family member of the deceased.
