Speakers call for disciplined, knowledgeable and socially active Muslim women to strengthen homes and communities.

At the Al-Mu’minaat Lagos Convention, speakers urged Muslim women to embrace torchbearing roles rooted in discipline, knowledge and positive influence.

In an interview with Daily Independent, Hajia Adeola Shafi’i noted that being a torchbearer starts with personal integrity, stating that women must live by the values they preach and shape their homes by nurturing their families.

Shafi’i added that a true torchbearing Muslim woman must engage society, speak out against wrongdoing and contribute to meaningful social progress.

The National Amirah praised the outgoing Al-Mu’minaat Lagos leadership, led by Hajia Balqis Abdullah, for strengthening sisterhood, deepening community service and expanding the organisation’s visibility statewide.

She explained that the gathering marked a handover convention, paving the way for a new executive team to continue the work.

Builder AbdulHamid encouraged Muslims to prioritise self-empowerment and play constructive roles in their families and communities, while also stressing improved security consciousness amid ongoing national insecurity.

Hajia Abdullah expressed gratitude to her executive team as her two-year tenure draws to a close in December 2025.

She highlighted key achievements including welfare projects, SOS assistance to victims of a collapsed Mushin mosque, prison visits, and outreach to orphanages, people with special needs, and the visually impaired.

She described her leadership journey as one of “strength and growth,” expressing optimism that the incoming administration will expand the organisation’s impact through more training and government collaboration.

Al-Mu’minaat is a women’s Islamic organisation that focuses on spiritual growth, community service, and empowering Muslim women to lead positive change in their homes and society through training, outreach, and strong sisterhood.
