Turkish president honours memory of six-year-old Hind Rajab

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has met with the family and relatives of six-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed during an Israeli attack in Gaza.

The meeting was held on Wednesday at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, where President Erdogan received the family in a private and solemn atmosphere.

During the visit, the Turkish leader paid special attention to the younger members of the family and expressed sympathy over the loss they suffered. He also spoke with some relatives through video calls, allowing family members who could not travel to Ankara to be part of the meeting.

Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, was also present, underscoring the importance the Turkish government places on remembering civilian victims of the Gaza conflict.

Hind Rajab was killed on January 29, 2024, alongside members of her family, after their car came under Israeli gunfire in the Tel al-Hawa area of Gaza City while they were trapped inside the vehicle.

Her death has drawn international attention and has come to symbolise the suffering of Palestinian children affected by the war in Gaza.

The story of Hind Rajab was recently portrayed in a film titled The Voice of Hind Rajab, which was screened at a special event at the Presidential Complex attended by her family.
