Awqaf Begins Third Asaneed Programme to Improve Imams’ Qur’an Recitation

Fifty Imams and muezzins selected nationwide for six-month advanced Qur’anic training in Qatar

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has launched the third edition of its Asaneed Programme, aimed at strengthening the quality and accuracy of Qur’an recitation among Imams and muezzins across Qatar.

The programme, introduced through the Department of Da‘wah and Religious Guidance in collaboration with the Mosques Department, brings together 50 Imams and muezzins selected from different parts of the country for intensive training during the 2025–2026 cycle.

The initiative focuses on improving recitation according to the narration of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim, with an uninterrupted chain of transmission traced back to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in line with established scholarly standards of Qur’anic performance.

Awqaf said the programme reflects its continued commitment to preserving the Holy Qur’an and ensuring precision, discipline and excellence in its public recitation, especially in mosques where Imams and muezzins play a central role.

The Asaneed Programme is designed to help participants master accurate rules of recitation and adhere strictly to authenticated methods, thereby strengthening their performance and enhancing their religious duties in mosques.

Registration for the third edition opened on November 24, 2025, and attracted about 600 Imams and muezzins nationwide. Applicants were assessed through recitation and memorisation tests conducted at Hamad bin Nasser Al Misned Mosque in the Hazm Al Markhiya area between December 7 and 11.

Following the evaluation, the top 50 candidates were shortlisted to participate in the six month programme, which is scheduled to run until June 11, 2026.

The Department of Da‘wah selected 10 highly qualified and certified Qur’an scholars to supervise the recitation circles. These instructors were distributed across different regions of the country to ensure regular attendance and effective programme delivery.

Awqaf said the continuation of the Asaneed Programme highlights its success in developing human capacity, strengthening mosque activities and promoting the correct recitation of the Holy Qur’an based on sound scientific and educational principles.
