He said the late scholar was a devoted Muslim whose service to the Ummah will be missed

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has commiserated with the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and the University of Ibadan over the death of Professor AbdulGaniyu Raji.

In a condolence message addressed to the President of MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, the Sultan expressed deep sympathy with Muslims in the South West and across Nigeria over the loss of the respected Islamic scholar and academic.

Professor Raji, who passed away at the weekend, was a prominent member of MUSWEN and served as Chairman of its Secretariat Advisory Committee. He was also a notable lecturer at the University of Ibadan.

The Sultan, who is the Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, extended his condolences to the management of the premier university, describing the late professor as a scholar who combined academic excellence with strong Islamic values.

According to the Sultan, Professor Raji was a devout Muslim who served the Ummah with dedication and sincerity, adding that his contributions to Islamic scholarship and education would be greatly missed.

The condolence message was contained in a statement issued by the Sultan’s media team on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and made available to the media.

He prayed that Allah forgive the shortcomings of the late scholar, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Sultan also encouraged MUSWEN, the academic community and the family of the deceased to remain steadfast and find comfort in the impactful legacy he left behind.
