Kuwait Promotes Unity of Islamic and Gulf Nations

Minister Al-Wasmi says regional instability affects the whole Islamic world and highlights plans to modernize endowments and strengthen positive religious outreach.

Kuwait’s Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Al-Wasmi, emphasized that the country remains committed to supporting unity among Islamic and Gulf nations. He also warned that any threats to regional stability would have consequences for the broader Islamic world.

His remarks came on Saturday during a video call meeting of the executive council of the Conference of Ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Islamic countries. The session was led by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Sheikh.

“Kuwait stands firm in supporting the unity of the Islamic and Gulf ranks,” Al-Wasmi said. He added that “any harm to the security and stability of the region is a harm to the entire Islamic system.”

During the meeting, the council addressed current challenges facing the region. Members strongly condemned what they called attacks and aggressive actions by Iran against Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan. Al-Wasmi described these actions as “a clear violation of Islamic principles and the values of good neighborliness,” and warned that they could lead the region into conflict and threaten its overall stability.

The discussions went beyond political issues and also focused on developing Islamic endowments, or waqf, and updating their role in economic growth. Al-Wasmi highlighted several proposals reviewed during the session, including the use of modern technology and artificial intelligence to manage endowments, and a working paper examining how waqf can contribute to increasing GDP in Islamic countries.

He stressed that Kuwait is keen to adopt digital innovation to enhance the economic benefits of endowments and ensure long-term sustainability. The council also shared successful experiences in mosque construction and maintenance, and exchanged ideas on systems for appointing imams and preachers. Al-Wasmi added that these efforts also aim to strengthen religious outreach while rejecting all forms of extremism, presenting what he described as the true and positive image of Islam.
