CAIR Urges Congress to Stop Trump’s Threats on Iran

The US Muslim rights group warns lawmakers to act after the president mocked Islam and threatened attacks on Iranian civilians

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on Congress to reconvene and vote to end the war with Iran following remarks by Donald Trump that it described as inflammatory and offensive to Islam, as well as threatening attacks on civilian infrastructure.

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday morning, Trump wrote: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

In a statement from its Washington, D.C. office, CAIR criticized the remarks, saying they were reckless and dangerous, and reflected disregard for human life and religious beliefs. The organisation said the comments also showed contempt for Islam and accused the president of using religious language in a way that insults the faith and its followers.

CAIR added that the remarks follow what it described as a long pattern of anti-Muslim rhetoric and policies that have affected Muslims both in the United States and abroad. It said the use of the phrase “Praise be to Allah” in the context of threats of violence was inappropriate and deeply concerning.

The group urged Congress not to remain inactive while such statements are made, stressing that lawmakers have a responsibility to step in on issues of war and peace. It called on them to reconvene and ensure that no president can take the country into war without proper oversight.

Last week, CAIR also condemned Trump’s earlier threat to bomb Iran “back to the stone ages,” describing the statement as anti-Muslim, racist, and dehumanising.

CAIR said its mission remains to protect civil rights, improve understanding of Islam, promote justice, and support American Muslims.
