Muslim Women’s Committee, Education Ministry Meet to Empower Vulnerable Women

National Women’s Committee meets to strengthen support, education, and empowerment for the poorest women and families

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

A meeting was held in Sana’a, Yemen on Sunday which focused on the implementation mechanisms of the Muslim Women’s Conference outcomes and explored ways to support and empower the poorest segments of society. The event was organized by the National Women’s Committee.

The session, chaired by Dr. Ghada Abu Talib, head of the National Women’s Committee, brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research and the National Union for the Development of the Poorest Groups (“Ahfad Bilal”). The discussion centered on strategies to better integrate the “Ahfad Bilal” community into various educational stages and pathways.

The meeting also examined economic empowerment programs for women in this group, including technical and vocational education and training, and stressed the need to expand psychosocial support programs to reduce begging and address its root causes.

Participants highlighted the importance of educating and raising awareness among the “Descendants of Bilal”, encouraging their sons and daughters to take part in summer programs. This, they said, is crucial for strengthening their intellectual and cultural resilience against external schemes aimed at destabilizing the social fabric.

Dr. Ghada Abu Talib emphasized that the meeting is part of a strategic initiative to reinforce partnerships between the National Women’s Committee, the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, and the National Union for the Development of the Poorest Groups, with the goal of improving the living conditions and social welfare of women and vulnerable groups in Yemen.
