Majid Khademi killed in US-Israeli strike as war continues and top Iranian officials are targeted

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday confirmed that its intelligence chief, Majid Khademi, was killed in a US-Israeli attack, as senior Iranian officials continue to be targeted.

In a statement, the IRGC said: “Major General Majid Khademi, head of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was martyred in a criminal terrorist attack by the American-Zionist enemy at dawn today.”

Since the war between the US, Israel and Iran began in late February, several top Iranian leaders and officials have been killed. These include the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, and the commander of the IRGC’s Basij unit Gholamreza Soleimani.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was injured in an airstrike.

As the conflict enters its second month, both sides continue to carry out daily attacks. Iran has launched retaliatory strikes across the region, while uncertainty remains over whether Tehran and Washington will reach an agreement to end the fighting.

The IRGC said on Thursday that it would continue the war against the US and Israel, adding that Iran’s defence capabilities remain strong. This came after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages.”

Iran has also shut the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil route that carries about 20 percent of the world’s oil supply. The move has led to a sharp rise in oil prices worldwide.
