A Magistrates’ Court in Kano has granted bail to three men accused of insulting Islamic scholar Umar Sani Fagge.

The three men Adamu Adamu, Salihu Bala, and Hassan Umar, appeared before the court presided over by Magistrate Mustapha Sa’ad Datti. They are facing charges of conspiracy, defamation, and causing public disturbance.

During the hearing on Thursday, the men denied the accusations. Their lawyer then asked the court to grant them bail.

The court agreed and set bail at N50,000 for each person, with two sureties required. It said one surety must be a director, while the other must be a university lecturer. The case was then postponed to April 28, 2026, for further hearing.

The issue started from comments said to have been made at a political gathering in Kwaciri. A man identified as Isyaku Mai Fenti allegedly made insulting remarks about the scholar and later shared them on social media. However, Isyaku Mai Fenti is currently on the run.
