Visit raises hopes of possible US–Iran talks

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to visit Islamabad, raising hopes that talks with the United States may restart. The city has hosted earlier discussions between the two sides.

Iranian state media said Araqchi is on a trip that includes Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow. However, it did not confirm any meeting with the United States.

Pakistani officials said the visit could lead to new talks, but nothing has been confirmed yet. A U.S. team is already on the ground in case the talks happen.

There has been no official response from Washington. But U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran still has a chance to reach a “good deal.”

Earlier talks planned for this week did not happen. Iran said it was not ready, while a U.S. team led by Vice President JD Vance did not travel. President Donald Trump later extended a two-week ceasefire to allow more time for talks.

In the region, a separate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has also been extended. Iran says calm in Lebanon is important before wider talks can continue.

Tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. Iran has limited ship movement there, and recent incidents have raised concerns about stability.
