A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader has said the United States will not succeed against Iran in diplomacy after failing on the battlefield.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks in a post on X on Monday, saying US President Donald Trump was mistaken to believe pressure could force Tehran into accepting a deal after recent hostilities ended with a ceasefire.

“We defeated you on the battlefield; never imagine that you will emerge victorious in diplomacy,” Velayati said.

He was reacting to recent comments by Trump in which the US president accused Iran of mocking Washington for years and warned that “they will be laughing no longer.”

Velayati said such remarks ignored the realities of recent events and accused Washington of trying to hide losses suffered during the conflict.

The former Iranian foreign minister also warned Trump not to mistake calm in Iran for weakness.

He said Iran’s response during the conflict, including military actions and new shipping measures in the Gulf, had changed the regional balance of power.

Velayati added that Trump should understand the “new geopolitical order in West Asia” before making further claims of victory.
