The UAE Council for Fatwa has issued fresh guidelines on the proper conditions for animals used for Eid Al Adha sacrifice, reminding Muslims of the Islamic requirements needed for a valid Qurbani.

The council said sacrificial animals must come from livestock permitted in Islam, including sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. It also stressed that animals chosen for sacrifice must be healthy and free from visible defects such as blindness, illness, lameness, severe weakness, or extreme thinness.

According to the council, sheep should generally be at least one year old, although some Islamic opinions allow six-month-old sheep under certain conditions. Goats must be at least one year old, cattle must have completed three years, while camels should be at least five years old.

The Fatwa Council described Eid sacrifice as one of the great symbols of Islam and a strongly recommended Sunnah for Muslims who can afford it. It said the act promotes compassion, unity, and support for the needy during the Eid season.

The council added that the guidelines are meant to help Muslims perform the ritual correctly while also maintaining public health and safety standards during Eid Al Adha.
