FOMWAN Demands Justice for Slain Islamiyya Teacher

By Sadiq Abdulfatah

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria in Kaduna State has condemned the killing of Islamiyya teacher Malama Ummulkair in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, describing the mob attack as tragic and unacceptable. The association called on authorities to ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group’s Amirah, Hajiya Nafisat Musa-Isah, expressed deep sorrow over the teacher’s death, which reportedly occurred on June 21. She said the late Ummulkair devoted her life to teaching the Holy Qur’an and instilling good moral values in children.

FOMWAN said the killing was not only a painful loss to her family and the Muslim community but also a setback for education and the protection of women and children. The association urged the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to carry out a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation and ensure those responsible face the law.

The group also appealed to relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), humanitarian organisations and well-meaning individuals to provide welfare assistance and educational support for the deceased’s children.

FOMWAN further called on community leaders, religious leaders and residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and continue promoting peaceful coexistence and safety within their communities.

The association extended its condolences to the family of the late teacher, her students, the people of Maraban Jos and the wider Muslim community. It also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, and advocating safer communities across Kaduna State.

According to source, the killing sparked widespread condemnation across Kaduna State. Authorities had earlier announced the arrest and arraignment of suspects linked to the mob attack, while religious and civil society groups have continued to demand accountability and stronger measures to prevent similar incidents.
