A coalition of Muslim groups in Osun State has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for the August 15, 2026, election, saying Governor Ademola Adeleke has not adequately represented the interests of Muslims.

The groups, operating under the Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun State, made the announcement during a press conference in Osogbo. They accused the Adeleke administration of marginalising Muslims and opposed what they described as the continued Christian-Christian governorship ticket in the state.

In a statement signed by the group’s President, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman, and Secretary-General, Mallam Abdulganiy Sahid Olaide Ezra, the coalition said it carefully assessed the leading candidates before making its decision. It said the assessment focused on their track records, commitment to religious fairness and chances of winning the election.

The coalition described Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a respected Muslim but said it chose Oyebamiji because it believes he has a stronger political structure and wider support across the state.

The groups also expressed concern over the treatment of Muslims at Adeleke University and questioned the Adeleke family’s support for Muslim causes. They urged voters to consider fairness, equity and proper religious representation when electing the next governor.

They further called on Muslims across Osun State to support Oyebamiji, saying he offers the best chance of inclusive leadership. The coalition also condemned the recent political violence and killings in the state, quoted the Holy Qur’an on the sanctity of human life, urged politicians to avoid violence because power belongs to Allah, and prayed for peaceful campaigns and a peaceful election.
