Oriire Terrorists Must Face Swift  Justice

By Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade

The successful rescue of the abducted children and teachers from Oriire Community after fifty-six harrowing days is a great relief to Nigerians. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for his commitment, while the Armed Forces, the DSS, the Police, and other security agencies deserve national appreciation for rescuing the victims, neutralising some terrorists, and arresting eight suspects.

The President has assured Nigerians that justice will be served. That promise must be fulfilled through a speedy and transparent legal process. Delayed justice weakens public confidence and emboldens criminals.

Islam unequivocally condemns terrorism, kidnapping, murder, and every act that spreads fear among innocent people. Allah says:

“Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth to spread corruption…” (Qur’an 5:33).

This verse demonstrates the seriousness with which Islamic law treats violent crimes such as terrorism and armed banditry. Islam does not protect terrorists; rather, it seeks to protect lives, property, and public safety.

It is therefore wrong to associate terrorism with Islam. The religion forbids even frightening another person without cause, let alone abducting schoolchildren, murdering innocent citizens, and traumatising families.

The Oriire terrorists must face the full weight of the law. Justice must be swift, fair, and proportionate so that others contemplating similar atrocities will understand that such crimes carry serious consequences.

The rescue operation has restored hope. The prosecution of those responsible must now reinforce justice and strengthen national security.

Nigeria must remain a country where innocent lives are protected and terrorism finds no refuge.
