States Begin Collection of Initial Deposit for 2027 Hajj

By Mahmud Babangida Beli

Following the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria’s (NAHCON) commencement of preparations for the 1448H/2027 Hajj season, several State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards have begun collecting initial deposits from intending pilgrims in line with the Commission’s directive.

NAHCON had, through a circular dated 15 June 2026 titled “Commencement of Preparations for 1448H/2027 Hajj Season,” directed all State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, as well as licensed Private Tour Operators, to immediately begin preparatory activities in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

The initial deposit for the 2027 Hajj has been set at a minimum of ₦4 million, pending the determination and announcement of the final Hajj fare after consultations with relevant stakeholders and the conclusion of negotiations with service providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Commission also announced 26 September 2026 as the deadline for the collection of Hajj fares deposits by all State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, as well as licensed Private Tour Operators, to facilitate timely planning and contractual arrangements for the 2027 Hajj.

In response to the Commission’s directive, a number of State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions have commenced the collection of initial deposits from intending pilgrims, while preparations continue across the country in line with the approved timetable for the 2027 Hajj exercise.

NAHCON advised intending pilgrims to make payments only through their respective State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies or Commissions, or licensed Private Tour Operators where applicable. Intending pilgrims are also advised to obtain official receipts for every payment as evidence of their transactions.

The Commission noted that the early commencement of deposit collection is intended to facilitate timely planning for key aspects of the Hajj operation, including accommodation, transportation, feeding, healthcare and other logistics. It added that early registration by intending pilgrims would further support the smooth coordination of the 2027 Hajj exercise.

NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, licensed Tour Operators and other stakeholders to deliver a seamless, efficient and successful 1448H/2027 Hajj operation. The Commission urged states yet to begin the exercise to expedite preparations in line with the approved timetable for the pilgrimage.
