An exhibition in Poland is highlighting the history of Muslims in the country as the Islamic Religious Union marks 100 years since its establishment.

Titled “Mosques and Prayer Places in Poland,” the exhibition features eight information panels containing photographs and historical and architectural details of mosques, Islamic centres and prayer places across the country.

The exhibition traces the development of Muslim religious life in Poland through different periods, with a focus on places that have played an important role in preserving Islamic faith and culture.

Among the sites featured are the historic wooden mosques in Bohoniki and Kruszyniany, which reflect the Islamic heritage of the Tatars who settled in Poland and maintained their religious and cultural traditions over the centuries.

The exhibition also highlights the Białystok Mosque, which became the property of the Muslim community in 1981 and has since served as a place for prayer, education and other religious activities.

Another featured site is the Gdańsk Mosque, which combines modern architecture with traditional Islamic elements and serves religious, educational and cultural purposes.

The Tatar Islamic Cultural Center in Sokółka is also included, alongside the prayer hall linked to the Tatar Islamic Cemetery on Tatar Street in Warsaw, where religious and cultural activities are held.

The exhibition further presents the Islamic Cultural Center in Warsaw, which provides facilities for worship, education, meetings and social activities.

Organisers said the exhibition aims to raise awareness of the history of Muslims in Poland and the role mosques have played not only as places of worship, but also as centres of education, social interaction and cultural preservation.

Held during the centenary of the Islamic Religious Union, the exhibition presents a snapshot of Poland’s Islamic heritage, from historic wooden mosques linked to Tatar communities to modern Islamic centres serving Muslims today.
