Ansar-Ud-Deen Mourns Sheikh Asukuna, Hails His Service to Islam

By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria has mourned the death of Sheikh Surajudeen Asukuna, founder and Chief Missioner of Hizbullahi International Prayer Group, describing him as a committed Islamic scholar and a devoted servant of Allah.

In a condolence statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Society’s National President, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem, SAN, FCIArb, the organisation expressed sympathy to the leadership and members of Hizbullahi, the deceased’s family and the wider Muslim community.

The Society said it received the news with “profound sadness”, while accepting the death as part of Allah’s decree.

It quoted the Qur’anic verse, “Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn”  “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

A Life of Da’wah and Service

Paying tribute to Sheikh Asukuna’s religious career, Ansar-Ud-Deen described him as an accomplished Islamic scholar, preacher and servant of humanity whose life was devoted to da’wah, the spiritual development of Muslims and service to others.

The Society also highlighted his membership and service within its own ranks.

According to the statement, Sheikh Asukuna was a “distinguished and committed member” of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria and served in Division 3 of its Lagos Branch.

It said his loyalty, humility, wisdom and character earned him respect within the Society and beyond.

His association with Ansar-Ud-Deen adds another dimension to the religious career of the cleric, who founded and led Hizbullahi International Prayer Group and became known for his Islamic preaching and community engagement in Lagos.

The Society acknowledged the vacuum created by his death and prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for his shortcomings, acceptance of his righteous deeds and illumination of his grave.

It also prayed that Sheikh Asukuna be admitted into Al-Jannatul Firdaus without reckoning.

Prince Kazeem called for strength and patience for the deceased’s family, the Hizbullahi community, members of Ansar-Ud-Deen and the wider Muslim Ummah as they mourn his passing.

The Society also prayed that Allah would continue to raise people capable of sustaining the religious and community legacy left by the late cleric.

Sheikh Asukuna died on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. His death was announced by his family and Hizbullahi International Prayer Group, which described him as its Grand Amir. He was later buried according to Islamic rites at the Muslim Cemetery, Mowe-Ofada, Ogun State.
