Lawmaker warns negotiations could lead to more concessions

A Hezbollah lawmaker has criticised the latest round of direct talks between Lebanon and Israel, warning that the negotiations could lead to more concessions by Lebanon.

Hussein Hajj Hassan, a member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, made the remarks while reacting to the seventh round of US-sponsored direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials held in Rome on Tuesday.

According to Hajj Hassan, previous direct negotiations and agreements with Israel have only resulted in major concessions by Lebanon, while Israel continues to carry out attacks in southern Lebanon.

He alleged that Israeli forces have continued to target civilians and army personnel, destroy homes and cause widespread destruction despite the ongoing talks.

The Hezbollah lawmaker called on the Lebanese government to abandon what he described as the wrong approach of negotiating with Israel and instead remain committed to the principle of resistance to protect the country’s rights and sovereignty.

He also said Israel’s repeated military operations in Lebanon show that the country remains committed to what he described as an occupation policy.

Hajj Hassan further reaffirmed the strong relationship between Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, saying both groups remain united in confronting the challenges facing Lebanon and the wider West Asia region.

He added that the determination of the Lebanese people and their commitment to defending their rights remain essential in responding to Israeli actions.

The Hezbollah official urged the Lebanese government to adopt policies that protect the country’s national interests and prevent what he described as further concessions to Israel.
